You can’t get bored on the internet, you can always find some interesting and fun content for your computer. There are many fun sites and forums, and communities.

You can browse for specific information that you are interested in and almost always you will find that information. There are many search engines like Google for example that can help you in your search. You may find various videos that are related to music, movies, commercials, comedies and more on video streaming sites like YouTube in example. There are many interesting and funny flash games and cartoons that can be watched and played many times and still be interesting and you can find these on Newgrounds for example. You may be interested in a specific subject for example some particular art like painting, and you can find communities and forums where people speculate and share information related to specific subject. Try to avoid banners and similar where it says ‘you won, You are 999.999.999.999 visitor’ or similar because you can lose money that way or you can even get a computer virus that will be harmful for your personal computer and operating system.

You may also want to find some interesting photos and you can use some search engine to find them too. There are many sites where you may find a bunch of funny photos that can put a big smile on your face when you are bored. You can also find some useful information related to computers. You can find computer repair services, help and support or similar that you can contact if you have problems with your computer.

You can always find some community site which you can use to contact, communicate and interact with your friends and others. There are many sites that offer great fun and have a variety of pictures, games, videos so you can kill your time with them. If you are a learning type, you can go to some major information site like Wikipedia for example and search the info on the subject that interests you.

You can also find plenty of news sites which is a nice replacement for buying a newspaper sometimes. These sites can cover general news, politics, celebrity gossip, sport and much more categories, or everything together. There are many online games that you can play with people, you usually get one role and everyone has their role too, these games can be browser based. There are also some games that require a game client in order to be played, those games are usually 3d and browser ones tend to be text-based.

You may find some useful software for your personal computer too. You can find newer versions of drivers for example, and if you install them you can increase the potential of the specific device driver it is downloaded for, like graphic card, motherboard, sound card, etc. Drivers can fix some problems with devices, and in many cases problems are connected to bad rivers. You can find some interesting quizzes or even IQ tests. The internet is like a never-ending sea of information, you just need to type in what interests you and you will quickly find what you need.

Your computer may be experiencing sound problems like buzzing, breaking of the sound stream or your computer may not have sound at all, and other problems. If you are not experienced with a particular problem it is best to call some computer repair service.

If you are wondering what causes your sound card to stop working or makes problems, you should know that there are many things you can check by yourself.

See if the speakers are plugged into a power source. There are some old speakers that used batteries as a power source, if you have those check the batteries because they may be empty.

There is a big number of old sound adapters and laptops that have manual volume dial. You should try to position your volume dial in the middle and not to far on the sides, because it can turn off the volume.

Have you installed the driver for your sound card?

There are cases when people reinstall operating systems on their personal computers and they forget to install the drivers. Some motherboards have soundcards implemented on them and you can find sound drivers on installation disc for your motherboard. Sound cards that are not implemented on motherboards have driver installation discs too. Best way is to find most recent driver for particular sound device and download it from device manufacturer’s official site. Then you can install it and solve the problem.

There are cases when system plays audio files fine but it can’t play music CD’s. Look for a hidden mute in software, maybe someone muted it or you did it by accident, there are cases when it is auto/muted. Also check cables in your computer tower, maybe some of the cables are not connected as they should be.

If you only have built in integrated motherboard sound support you should check if it is enabled in CMOS. And if you are using a sound card you should check if the motherboard sound device is disabled, it can make a conflict and mute all sounds. There is a possibility when the system can’t recognize your sound card after previous steps. Try to unplug your sound card manually if it’s a plug and play sound card, and remove any other adapters except your video card. After those reboot your computer and let your BIOS adjust and configure. After that step shut down your computer and replace your sound card, just to see if that can get it going. If it works now, you might have problems again when you put the other adapters back in. If you do it one at a time you can know where the conflict appears.

If none of the above helps, it is advised to call some help and support center or a computer repair service. They can determine if the sound card can be fixed or you maybe need to buy another. These services are great and they can accurately find what the problem is and fix computer in no time.

You bought a new hard drive and you want to install it, what you should do?

There is one thing called jumper on the hard drive, you need to change its location from Master to Slave if you have the Master, if not live it as master. This is not needed when installing SATA drives.

It is not important if its IDE or SATA drive, the process of installing it is completely the same. You will get some cables that are used to connect the drive to your motherboard, just try to secure a safe place in your tower for the new drive. Also try to avoid touching other cables, circuits and panels in your computer tower. First connect data cable and after that you can connect the power.

Watch when installing because hard drives are really sensitive piece of hardware.

After that you should turn on computer and enter BIOS immediately to check if it recognizes the drive, sometimes it recognizes it automatically, sometimes you need to change some options in order to make BIOS know the component is there.

Now you should know that drives are low formatted when you get them, so you should do “high level format” before using it. You could just boot for example XP and go to “my computer” to find a new drive located in that folder. Then select the new drive, right click on it, go to tools and select Format. It will ask you to choose the file system and you should choose NTFS system, click start after that and be patient. This operation can last long, especially with large capacity drives, but leave computer working until this operation is finished.

Once it is completed you can reboot your personal computer and then find the new drive. Adding a new drive may change letters for other drives, so don’t be confused with it. This is what needs to be done, but you can never know what can go wrong with computers.

If your computer’s system still uses FAT32 you may have problems with bigger capacity drives like 120Gb drive or a larger, the system sometimes can’t recognize them. Service Pack 2 could solve this problem, or you can update your BIOS if you have some really old motherboard. You can also turn off your computer, check cables again just to make sure everything is connected as it should be. After that reboot, go to BIOS to see if the device is recognized now, you may even need the boot disk for your system or you can download it too, it is needed to format this new drive before it can be installed as a slave drive of your original Master drive.

If this does not help try calling some computer repair service or computer repair on site service that can look at the problem and fix it in no time. You can try to fix problem yourself but it is always advised to contact some help and support and see what is the best thing to do when a problem occurs.

If your computer case has become boring to you, you could try to pimp it up and make it cooler, flashier, darker, funny or try something completely new. You can use a variety of things to make your case interesting, but try to avoid touching the components inside the case, and keep in mind that you will have to open it sometime.

There are many things you can do to your computer case, you just need the right gear and a bit of creativity. You can use many things when making a custom computer case, you can use toys or some parts of toys, action figures, and you can use some USB gadgets and implement them on your work. You can use some old piece of electrical device you are not using anymore like video recorder or something similar. Also people use LED lights because it can be really flashy. If you want to make a custom computer case it would be nice to draw it first and make some schematic for it so you can have a preview of the case. You can adjust your schematic and plan the best build for your custom case.

You must have in mind that you need to leave enough room for accessing USB ports, hubs and other. You will basically need glue mostly, and rethink before starting. See if you have everything you need before pimping your computer case. If you make some error you can try to fix it immediately. You could go on the internet and search for custom computer cases because that way you can get inspiration and you can see what kinds of customizations are possible, for some you will need some skill for others not but there are custom made cases that require a lot of knowledge in technique to be built.

Custom cases can look really good, people usually build themed custom computer cases, and themes go from gaming, movies, and characters to unusual cases that look like a fridge, stadium and other. You can try to be as original as you can be and make some unique case. Try to use a variety of items to make the case better looking and if you are doing a themed one, try to make your case theme based without jumps from the subject. You can make custom case that fits your computers environment to, you can also try to embed your case to your computer table by customizing the table itself. Try to avoid jamming the case inside the table without a chance to get it out.

Main thing when making a custom computer case is access, after that you should think about the theme and materials and finally about the sole process of customization. Customization can be time consuming and usually the results are astonishing and really worth the time spent.

Take what you need and start making some prototype pimped unique computer case of yours, make it so that you can enjoy it, after that people will just be positively shocked on site.

Here are some seriously pimped computer cases.

Problems with CD and DVD ROMs happen often when compared to other computer problems. First thing that could make a problem is double pressing the eject button, after double pressing CD’s or DVD’s stay inside instead of coming out. Press it once and wait a moment for it to come out. Remember to move your finger away immediately after you press it. The drive will not open immediately if it is playing some disc or reading information from it, just be patient and wait a few seconds. If there is a disc inside and it won’t play, you should check if the power supply is in the socket and in the back of the drive too.

Shut down your computer, restart it and try to play some media disc, or try to read its data. If you can’t eject the disc after this, reboot the system again, enter BIOS and check if your bios can register the drive. Sometimes you have to enter CMOS and enable the disabled drive. If bios can’t register it, it may be an ATA drive failure. You could call a computer support center and see if they have computer repair on site that could save some time.

Before you open the computer, make sure that your drive isn’t locked by some type of software. The best way to notice that is to reboot your computer and manually hit the eject button located on your drive before the system loads, right after restarting. Some media player software can lock the eject button in hardware, when that happens you can use the software eject button.

Sometimes whole personal computer trembles and makes noise when CD’s and DVD’s spin. Check if the drive is well mounted with screws if it is not, try to tighten them a bit. Try ejecting and reinserting your media disc, because it just can get of balance. Discs can shatter too, if they are not inserted how they should be, they can get of balance, shatter and destroy the drive too. If the problem appears only on one or a few of the discs, then it’s not the drive, if you have problems with every disc, then it is best to call a computer repair Service.

If your computer can’t even recognize your drive you should look for drivers on the disc you usually get with your drive when buying it. You can always call some computer support center and get information you need. You can download the drivers latest versions from the internet, just go to the manufacturers page and look for it.

Sometimes you can’t play your DVD movie on a computer, the problem usually is with CODEC. Usually media player displays error message connected to CODECS. You should look for CODECS on the internet, but beware there are a lot of people who will try to sell you CODECS, and you can get them for free. If you are installing CODECS it is best to find some good codec pack that has a variety of CODECS in one installation file.

If you have some other problem with your drive, it is best to call a computer repair service that can fix your computer or some of the components.

Windows 7 is the new upcoming version of the Microsoft Windows operating systems. People are looking forward to having this version of Windows because Windows Vista didn’t live up to its name, it was buggy and had some problems. Most reliable Microsoft Windows to this day is Windows XP. Windows 7 was codenamed Blackcomb and Vienna when it was in preparation.

Unlike Windows Vista that has a great layout and visual quality, Windows 7 will be more compatible, it will support all previous software that worked on past versions of Windows and it will be an a lot faster and better operating system.

Windows 7 will bring some major updates to some Windows features. For example advances in handwriting recognition, better performance with multi-core processors, kernel upgrades, support for virtual hard drives, better boot performance, etc. Many new features will be added to the control panel, so you will be able to customize your operating system even more then you could before. The taskbar will be changed to, the quick launch icon has been removed and replaced with pinning programs and applications to the taskbar. The new task bar is easier and more practical, but maybe you will need some time to get used to it. The new layout has some practical features and it can make some of your Windows transparent just by dragging your mouse over the icon, which can be really helpful in some situations.

Microsoft has published information on minimum system requirements needed to use Windows 7. Microsoft has released an application that works as an advisor, it scans your computer to see if it is compatible for Windows 7.

For 32 bit system minimum system requirements for Windows 7 are following: 1 GB of RAM, Processor should be minimum 1 GHz, graphic card should support direct x 9 and it should have at least 128 MB of graphics memory, it requires 16 GB of hard disk space. For 64 bit things are different: At least 2 GB of RAM, processor 1 GHz, Graphic card that supports direct x 9 with 128 MB of graphics memory and at least 20 GB of free hard disk space is required for installation.

Some features that Windows Vista had are removed in order to maximize the performance. Your computer should work really fine when using Windows 7 because the main goal when making Windows 7 was to fix the previous problems and make it stable and reliable. Layout for Windows 7 looks great and it looks like they have really paid attention to making it functional and user friendly rather than putting make up on something that doesn’t work but looks nice. This is the idea most people had that used Vista.

Your computer will certainly work great when using Windows 7 if it has the minimum system requirements, but it is always better to have computer that does not only mach minimum operating requirements but is even better configured. Windows 7 will run smoothly even on computers that are outdated, it is only needed to have requirements earlier mentioned in the text. It looks like Microsoft is finally making something as good as Windows XP, maybe even better.

When you are buying computer parts you should consider your needs. One other thing that is important is for what you need the computer and how much are you willing to pay for it.

Let’s talk about a case first which is your personal computer’s tower. You should look for one that has enough room for all your components you wish to buy, and one that has technical specifications to support your own set of components. If you are buying a server case, point out what you need because they have different requirements. Make sure that your case has enough places where you can place coolers. It is advised to have at least 4 good working coolers.

Next thing should be the motherboard which should be able to support all components that you wish to put into your personal computer. The processor or CPU should be strong. Something like a dual-core or quad-core if you are going to play games or do some modeling, rendering or designing on your personal computer. In other cases you don’t need such a strong processor.

The next component is the memory, you will need from 1 to 8 gb’s of RAM memory. If you are just using your computer for internet browsing, typing or some minor work, like watching movies or downloading files, 1 gb should be enough. In order to play games and design however, you will need more than that to work properly without any problems.

One other important component is the hard drive. It doesn’t matter what configuration you need and for what exactly, hard drives are used to store data, and it’s your choice which one you buy.

If you have bought stronger components, you should have in mind that they can overheat and stop working or even make other devices stop working if you don’t have a good cooling system. You should have coolers on your CPU, Graphic Card, Power Supply and even a few in your computer case if you have a really strong configuration because it can easily overheat.

The next component you need is a power supply. For configurations that are strong, some strong power supplies are advised to be used. For example; you can buy a 300-450W power supply if your configuration is for web browsing or for office work, 450-800 W is advised for gaming computers and 800-1400W power supplies are being used for designing, modeling, rendering, etc.

You will also want to have a monitor. Monitors come in different shapes and specifications. The size varies from 15 inch monitors to 22 inch monitors. Today, 19 inch is pretty much the standard. You can choose between crt, tft, lcd monitors. Today, flat monitors are commonly used everywhere. TFT and LCD monitors take less space than CRT ones.

You also must buy other components needed to use your computer like a keyboard, a mouse, speakers, etc. There is also a big number of gadgets you can buy for your computer like microphones, headsets, webcams and other handy gadgets.

If you are not that familiar with hardware for a computer it is nice to get the help of a specialist when you look for a computer. This can prevent you from buying the wrong components and making a wrong setup in your computer.

You can use your personal computer for gaming. Computers for gaming must follow the new improvements in order to run the newest games.

Gaming computers can be configured for optimum performance and maximum performance. Optimum performance gaming personal computers offer a good quality of game play but not the best one, they are configured to work fine and give nice results. Optimum performance is really good because machines that are made to be optimal are safe from breaking down because they do not use their full potential and are still good. Maximum performance personal computers can run games in biggest resolutions, with best details, best shade effects and all that makes games more good looking. However, there is one problem with maximum performance. Machines that are made to run according to their maximum but do not have the required hardware are under a constant pressure during game play. The graphic card can overheat, and the same goes for the processor, making the game play even slower while skipping frames and other side effects. So be careful with your choice.

Gamers with no experience in hardware mostly buy pre-made personal computers for their gaming needs. There are gamers who choose their configuration and put it together themselves. Cases for gaming computers tend to be flashier, you can see trough the case because you can have glass on one side, so you could see the components inside.

You can buy some special gadgets for gaming computers. You can buy joysticks that are useful when playing some flight simulators. You can get joy-pads for fighting games or any other kind of joystick you feel comfortable with. You can get a steering wheel for driving games and simulations. A PC that should match your gaming needs must have its hardware updated all the time to be able to run the newest games and the requirements change every few months. Unlike consoles, personal computers may experience problems with the compatibility of the game with the computer itself. A computer can have old hardware and work fine, but sometimes, even if the hardware requirements are fulfilled the computer may not be able to run games. The computer might have some virus that has destroyed the executable file for the game, it can have problems with the internet connection, a low disk space could be a problem, and the list goes on. So, if you are going to buy a gaming computer should choose your components carefully or choose a premade computer that has great hardware. Take really good care of that personal computer and update its hardware and software if you wish to play the newest games.

You can look on the internet and find useful information on how to make a great PC that matches your gaming needs. It is best to review several pc’s and components so that you know what is out there, know that you are not paying too much and you can see what the best options for you are.

If you intend to play some particular game you can also have a look at the box of the game and see what the requirements are to play that game. If you then buy components that are slightly better than the suggested requirements for the game you know that you will be on the safe side for that particular game and will not come across any errors if all goes well.

Overheating can be a real problem to your personal computer. Laptops are overheated more often because they have rechargeable batteries that can get real hot after some time. You should just unplug your laptop when not using it to avoid overheating. There are some programs that alert you when the system temperature is too high.

Overheating is a constant problem with computers. There are a lot of people that think that their system is down because of some computer virus or some dangerous software but it is overheating that is usually the problem. The symptoms of overheating can be shutting down of the computer, computer restarting on its own, etc.

There are a few problems that can cause overheating. One of the coolers may not work and it causes the temperature to go high.

The computer can have up to three coolers, the power supply cooler, graphic card cooler and central processing unit or CPU. You can easily check if the power supply cooler is working, just look in the upper computer tower part located at the back of the tower and see if the fans are spinning. Other two coolers are located in the computer tower itself and you can check if those are spinning. If one of those is not spinning you might need to replace that part of the computer or repair it.

Dust can be a problem too. It is gathered on coolers and it may slow them down so they can’t cool the system enough to work properly. You can clean your coolers from time to time to prevent this from happening.

One other problem is smoke. If a computer is exposed to cigarette smoke, overheating can be a problem again. It’s because cigarette smoke has tar in it, and tar gathers around coolers making them work slower so they again can’t cool the system enough. When the temperature inside the computer rises above a normal and safe temperature, the computer will shut down as a precaution. In your BIOS you can choose at what temperature your system will shut down and you can choose to activate a temperature warning sound too.

A computer can have cd burner fans, PCI slot fans and hard disk fans too. These are just a bonus and these kinds of hardware have them implemented sometimes.

When one of your fans is not working properly, your computer tower may be a bit noisy. That’s because dust or tar gathered on some of the coolers and it’s making them noisier. You should clean it on time because that cooler may get even more dust or tar on it, and it can stop working.

There are many types of coolers and their strength varies. If your personal computer has some strong components like for example a great graphic card, it can easily overheat, so you need a good cooling system. One other thing to watch for is the power supply. When you have good and strong coolers, you must have a high voltage power supply to support these coolers and the other components.

Computer viruses show how vulnerable computer systems are. Viruses can be painful for the economy because there were cases when viruses were responsible for destroying millions of dollars in just a few seconds. Viruses can damage your computer as well, they can lower your system’s speed down, erase valuable information and you can even loose all your private data.

A virus is a small software that attaches itself to one of your programs and when you use that program the virus itself is turned on. After that the virus starts to reproduce and attaches to other programs, infecting them too. Then the computer is in danger and it spreads so fast that people can’t even get a chance to react sometimes.

There are E-Mail Viruses as well. E-Mail viruses are usually messages with a virus in an attachment, they replicate and send themselves to all your contacts if you open them. They can infect your computer when the attachment is opened and sometimes they can even infect your computer when you just open that E-Mail without even downloading the attachment.

Trojan Horses are not rare at all in the virus world. They are not software that spreads around leaching on programs, they are independent. They can be in the form of a downloadable game, some small computer software or even a screensaver, but are known for erasing complete content of your hard drives.

Worms are yet another kind of viruses. Worms use security holes and computer networks to replicate, and spread around. After transferring to other machines a worm spreads around further by searching holes and copying itself.

You can protect yourself from viruses by using Anti-Virus programs. Anti-Virus programs use firewalls to protect your computer from harming software. They can also scan your drives for viruses. When they find a virus on your system you get to chose to delete that file or move it to their chest. The chests are places provided through these Anti-Virus programs where you can safe keep infected files so they can’t spread around. Viruses mostly attack system files and that could be a problem, because if you try to delete that file, sometimes you won’t be able to do so and you could even mess up the system.

Viruses can be spread trough multimedia system too, like cd’s, dvd’s, usb drives, etc. You should scan those with an Anti-Virus application first before you make use of them. One other thing, do not open E-Mails from unknown senders, with executables in it, for example: jpg, com, exe, vbs, etc.

You should pay attention to which internet pages you visit because there are many unsafe internet pages that can harm you personal computer. Some protection programs warn you before visiting unsafe internet pages. If they do so, it is better not to visit these pages. So, beware of the viruses, they are called that way because they have a lot of similarities to real viruses and they spread as fast as those.

There are some safer systems that can be used if you are constantly attacked by harmful software, or you just want to be safe. UNIX is one system that can be used as a safe operating system and it offers great protection. Remember to update databases of your Anti-Virus services frequently.
